Roger and I decided a couple of weeks ago that we would “Discover Ohio”. He is a fan of history and haunted houses and I just enjoy traveling to different places and seeing different styles of architecture in housing. Sunday we took off on a road trip. Ali was designated photographer as I was driving. We had no idea where we were going. On our way “there”, I gave them a little history of Carroll County from my newspaper days. This brought us to Morgan’s Raid.

This house below is near where the Union forces engaged in a skirmish with the Raiders. This is near Salineville, Ohio.

This plaque is at a church some 10 miles north of Salineville. The raiders then rode an additional 3 miles north then doubled back toward Salineville. Some of the raiders are buried in this cemetery.

On our drive we happened upon the quaint little town of Dungannon. It is home to this church:

Just outside of Dungannon is this log cabin. I have an affinity for log cabins as I grew up in one. Ours has asphalt siding put on in the early 1900′s, which covers many additions. We passed two others on our adventure.

This is just a big old hose we saw on a side street in Lisbon. I’d like to have a home such as this or the first one, but I know that won’t likely happen.
    My husband hates stairs. LOL

These were just a few of the old buildings we saw on Sunday.

  • There is so much within a single state to see and being from Ohio and my age you would think I would have seen it all but far from it.  I have plans in the works for viewing some of the old mills and hope I can pull it off but your photos are proof of other instance so much worth seeing.  Traveling the off the beaten paths there are still living situations we can’t believe if we are a part of the more citified folk.  Wonderful things within small perimeters.  The way you are going about it makes a lot of sense.  Keep on taking and displaying.  All the difference is great to see.

  • Great photos and heaps of history!

  • i have always wanted to live in a house just like that first pic and be a “southern belle” with the huge dresses and sweet tea never running out and friends coming over just to sit outside on the huge porch with me…

actually, after looking a second time… since this is fantasy… i would make the porch even larger!!

  • I like all of those brick buildings a lot. I didn’t know that log and lime cabins were still made; I thought they had been obsolete for over a century, but that one looked new. I learn something new every day.

  • Great photos! I love the house in the first one.

  • Oh those are super photos :) I would love to live in that last house, that would be sooooooo cool. I would be like this eccentric ole lady that no one knows anything about LOL I could wear ole Victorian style gowns and walk into town and people would point and whisper, “Oh there is that old lady that lives in that big house, no one knows where she came from, she just showed up one day.” LOL Thanks for sharing the pictures xoxo Tynee

It’s only 4:44 here but what the heck, woke up to down some more juice LOL I am pretty sure a great many know I have Scleroderma already and to explain what all it is, well thats very difficult cause it’s one of those diseases that alters in the manner if affects one constantly. Even the doctors are at a loss as to what causes it or how to cure it. I have seen at least 4 different doctors and they all even pronounce it differently so they can’t even get together on that Lmaoooooooooo

It’s frustrating, annoying, sometimes painful and if you think about having to live you whole life with it, well lordie love a duck it’s kinda like having a hubby LOL
